The Oak Tree story…

My name is Joanna, and I am a Traditional Midwife, Certified Professional Midwife, and Licensed Midwife in Wisconsin. I am a mother of 4. Maverick was born and passed in 2006 at a perinatal intensive care unit in Missouri. My family and living children, Levi, Ruth, and Shifra live in the north metro. They were all born at home. My girls were my unassisted births.

I would say my midwifery journey started back at the end of 2006. Since then I've known I wanted to be a part of helping women and their babies. However, it wasn't until I was pregnant with my son Levi that I realized the path I was meant to take. I knew that I trusted birth. My own midwife, Jeanne Bazille, heard my desire to serve women and sent us to Jody, a then doula and Bradley Method Instructor. I began attending some births as a doula. Soon after, I apprenticed under Jeanne from April of 2013 to June of 2016. During that time I also attended births with several other midwives. When my apprenticeship ended Jeanne and I became partners. Since Jeanne passed away I have been working on my own—continuing to do what she so graciously taught me. I am so pleased and joyful to work with birthing mothers!

In loving memory of Jeanne Bazille

Since 2021 I have been teaching traditional midwifery to aspiring midwives in Minnesota. I feel a strong leading to teach and hand down the skills and wisdom that was shared with me by my mentor Jeanne. Her legacy will live on through our area traditional midwives for generations and touch the lives of many through the beauty of undisturbed, trusted, physiological birth.
